One Is Immortal is set in the St Peter Church, on the outskirts of Amsterdam,
hemmed in between motorways and office blocks. This church houses the graves
of many generations and has a rich history. Thanks to the permanent right
to its graves, the church has been preserved, but it has had to adapt to
the modern era. The house of God has been partially transformed into a party
centre and has acquired several functions. Several of its users reflect
on life and death and talk about why they most want to be buried here. The graveyard and the church symbolise the indissoluble unity of life and death. |
